In the film, Friends with Benefits, Jamie Rellis (Kunis) is a New York City head-hunter who is trying to sign the Los Angeles based art director, Dylan Harper (Timberlake). Dylan takes the job and makes the move and they then quickly become friends. Their friendship turns into a friendship with benefits. Jamie has an emotionally damaged past and Dylan has a history of being emotionally unavailable. They both have to try and not to fall for each other in the way that all Hollywood romantic comedies dictate.
