In The Beach, Richard (DiCaprio) is a young and nicotine addicted traveler. He is also an avid pop-culture buff who has a particular love for video games and Vietnam War movies. Whilst staying at a Bangkok hotel Richard finds a map. It had been left by his strange, whacked-out neighbour, who just has just committed suicide. The map supposedly leads to a legendary island paradise. Here, some other wayward souls have settled.
