This true story follows the FBI agent Joe Pistone (Depp) as he infiltrates the mafia of New York. Befriending Lefty Ruggiero (Pacino) he uses the undercover name of Donnie Brasco. He is now able to embed himself in a mafia faction which is led by Sonny Black (Madsen). Ruggiero and Pistone become tight as the group goes about collecting money for ‘the bosses’.  The group is set to become big-time when Black himself is made a Boss. Whilst all this is happening Pistone is collecting evidence for the FBI. However, the trials of the undercover work become more than Pistone can bear. His marriage falls apart and to top it off, the mafia suspect a mole. The real dilemma facing Pistone is that he knows if he walks away from the mafia that his friend Ruggiero will be the one that is punished.
