The Kingdom of Alagaesia is ruled by the evil King Galbatorix (Malkovich). He is a former dragon rider who betrayed his people in the quest for power. When the orphan farm boy, Eragon (Speelers) finds a blue stone sent by Princess Arya (Guillory), he soon realizes that it is a dragon egg. When the dragon Saphira is born, Eragon meets his mentor Brom (Irons). He then becomes the dragon rider foreseen in an ancient prophecy and who would free his people from Galbatorix. He meets rebels and together they fight against the evil sorcerer, Durza (Carlyle) and the army of Galbatorix. This is for a journey towards freedom.
