Set in future Earth (2035 A.D.). Robots are assistants and workers for their human owners. This is the story of the “robotophobic” Chicago Police Detective, Del Spooner (Smith). He is investigating the murder of Dr. Lanning (Cromwell), who works at U.S. Robotics. A robot called Sonny (Tudyk), appears to be implicated. This would mean that the robot had violated the Three Laws of Robotics, which is apparently impossible. If robots can break these laws, there’s nothing to stop them from taking over the world. This is because humans have now become dependent on them. Aiding Spooner in his investigation is psychologist, Dr. Susan Calvin (Moynaham). She specializes in the psyches of robots.
