In Speed, a man tries to extort money by threatening to kill some people with explosives. The city is about to give in when rookie cop, Jack Traven (Reeves) stops him and the killer is beleived to have been killed. He actually escapes and this time he has placed a bomb on an LA bus that will explode if it goes below 50 mph. He dares Jack to stop him. Jack tries to stop the bus before the bomb is armed but is too late. All he can do now is to keep it going. While his partner, Harry (Daniels) tries to find the guy.
