Erin Brockovich (Roberts) is an unemployed single mother. She browbeats her lawyer to give her a job as means of compensation for a loss. No one takes her seriously, but this soon changes. Erin begins to investigate a suspicious real estate case. It involves the Pacific Gas & Electric Company. What she discovers is that the company is trying quietly to buy land that was contaminated by hexavalent chromium. This is a deadly toxic waste that the company is improperly and illegally dumping. Erin finds herself leading a series of events.  This will involve her law firm in one of the biggest class action lawsuits in American history. They are set against a multi billion dollar corporation.
