Description

This superb filmcell features Sir Sidney Poitier, a Bahamian-American actor, film director, author and diplomat. In 2009 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. This is the United States highest civilian honor.

Sidney Poitier was the first male actor of African descent to be nominated for an Academy Award. This was for his role in the film, The Defiant Ones (1958). In 1964, he became the first black person to win an Academy Award for Best Actor in Lilies of the Field (1963). The significance of this achievement was bolstered in 1967 when he became the top box-office star after three successful films. These all dealt with race issues. The films included; To Sir with Love (1967), In the Heat of the Night (1967) and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967). In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Poitier 22nd in the Greatest Male Stars of All Time.

This is a Limited Edition Film Cell of just 1000 pieces and comes with a Numbered plaque.
